We the staff of St Patrick’s acknowledge the traditional owners, the Kulin nations, of the land on which we learn and play.
We pay respects to the Aboriginal Elders, past and present, who are our teachers.
We thank them for taking care of children and country for countless generations.
Matthew 16:13-19
You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do you say I am?’ Then Simon Peter spoke up, ‘You are the Christ,’ he said ‘the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven.’

What a great start to the year! The students have settled in well and are starting to learn the routines at school. It is wonderful to see the new friendships they are creating and their willingness to follow our classroom routines we have in place. One thing they already love is our ‘Buddy Programs’. This involves older students being paired with younger students. Older students are sometimes in Years 5 or 6. The purpose of a buddy program is to support a smooth transition for Foundation students starting school. This helps to promote social skills and a sense of community and belonging. It also helps develop relationships between the younger and older students in our school.
A structured lesson is planned by the teacher to support students to get to know each other and to help Foundation students to have a smooth transition to school.
This week FGW and 5RM worked together on a ‘Get to know you’ task. The teachers introduce a new learning tool (Venn Diagram – as shown in pictures) to the Foundation students which helped them find common interests and individual interests. The students enjoy spending time with their buddies and playing with them on Fridays.
