We the staff of St Patrick’s acknowledge the traditional owners, the Kulin nations, of the land on which we learn and play.

We pay respects to the Aboriginal Elders, past and present, who are our teachers.

We thank them for taking care of children and country for countless generations.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

Young girl, I say to you, arise.

When Jesus had crossed in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered round him and he stayed by the lakeside. Then one of the synagogue officials came up, Jairus by name, and seeing him, fell at his feet and pleaded with him earnestly, saying, ‘My little daughter is desperately sick. Do come and lay your hands on her to make her better and save her life.’ Jesus went with him and a large crowd followed him; they were pressing all round him.

Some people arrived from the house of the synagogue official to say, ‘Your daughter is dead: why put the Master to any further trouble?’ But Jesus had overheard this remark of theirs and he said to the official, ‘Do not be afraid; only have faith.’ And he allowed no one to go with him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. So, they came to the official’s house and Jesus noticed all the commotion, with people weeping and wailing unrestrainedly. He went in and said to them, ‘Why all this commotion and crying? The child is not dead, but asleep.’ But they laughed at him. So he turned them all out and, taking with him the child’s father and mother and his own companions, he went into the place where the child lay. And taking the child by the hand he said to her, ‘Talitha, kum!’ which means, ‘little girl, I tell you to get up.’ The little girl got up at once and began to walk about, for she was twelve years old. At this they were overcome with astonishment, and he ordered them strictly not to let anyone know about it, and told them to give her something to eat.

Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,

Welcome to the final newsletter for Term 2. Looking back over the term, here are some of the events we have experienced. Year 3 swimming, Year 4 camp, Book Fair, Year 2 Fairytale Day, Cross country Division, Year 5 Taster sessions at SFX, Camp Quality, Year 5 and 6 Incursions, Blessing and Opening of our Buildings and the celebration of both Catholic Education and Reconciliation Week.

Thanks to Nadine King, Cathy Edwards and Sharon Blackwood for their amazing work in getting the book Fair all set up! And a HUGE Thank you to all our wonderful families who came in and purchased the books that their children can enjoy for years to come! It is so wonderful to see that our children still want to read and explore the amazing journeys that books offer. All the money raised, over $4,000, goes straight back to the school. Congratulations to our raffle winners, Teddy FKG, Ruth from 3AG and Alek for 6JP. And Miss McGill was our winner in the teacher’s raffle.

This week in the Gospel, we hear about one of Jesus’s miracles. A miracle that he asked for no one to talk about. Is this Jesus being humble? Is Jesus afraid that people will think he is trying to make people believe in things they normally would not? Or is this Jesus simply doing what he was sent to do; save us from our sins, help us to have faith that miracles can happen? And we can all learn a lesson in being humble. To do for others and to not expect to be rewarded or recognised. Is the act of doing for others not enough? Maybe this is the real message here.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining in with the Year 2s for their fairytale Day and what a magical experience that was. The Year 2 students had written their own fairytales to share as well as acted out old favourites such as The Gingerbread Man. Both students and teachers joined in the fun by dressing up and afterwards we had a dance party! Thanks to the Year 2 staff, Neesha Bateson, Sarah McGill, Vanessa Whittaker and Jen White for their hard work in getting the students ready. There are photos below.

Thanks again to my incredible staff for their amazing work with our students. Despite the many challenges of teaching today, they continue to show unprecedented love and care for our students.

I wish all families a safe and happy break. I sincerely hope that you get a chance to spend some quality time together and remember to be in the moment! I look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday 15th July.

Term 2 finishes TOMORROW the 28th June at 3.10pm for 2 weeks. Term 3 begins on Monday 15th July.

Take care and God Bless,

Meg
