Class Newsletter - 4VR
Welcome to 4VR’s Newsletter
We have been so busy learning this term!
We have written about some of the highlights below.
‘Learning Pit’
We began our year in 4VR talking about strategies that can help us to learn. One thing we learnt was that sometimes we can ‘get stuck’ in our learning but that we should never give up. We can find a way to climb out of the ‘Learning Pit’. The important thing is to have a go and not stay stuck.
Ruth and Achieu: I’ll have a go.
Rebecca: I’ll try my best.
Mach and Alier: I will ask someone for help.
Lachlan: I will try a new strategy.
Javika: Almost there, just keep trying.
Akuoch: I’ve got this!
St Patrick’s Day Recounts
Happy St Patrick’s Day - By Baaz
First we went to the church. It is near our classroom.
Then we had fruit and snack and went out to play.
Next all grades from yellow, green, red and blue house went in groups and did activities. I made a clover, did an escape room and took a look at a sculpture of St Patrick. After that we had a bbq and went to play.
Finally I wrote this recount.
My favourite thing was the escape room.
Happy St Patrick’s Day - By Raine
On the 17th of March 2025 it was St Patrick's Day and we had fun!
First we did prayer and Layla was the one saying which prayer to do. Then we had mass in the church. After mass we learnt a bit about St Patrick like he escaped from the bad people who treated St Patrick like a slave.
After that we all had snack. It was about 10:30 by the time we got back to the classroom and I had some fruits and a chocolate bar.
Then we had recess play. My friends Ruth, Mercy and I played with a little Prep.
After that we did rotations. We all had to go to our house colour and Green House was first with Mrs Andrews.
Next we had our lunch. The teachers planned for us to have some sausages with bread and maybe some tomato sauce. After that we had a late playtime and again I played with my friends Mercy and Ruth and a little prep.
Finally we packed up to go home and it was sooooooo much fun.
I felt really happy and excited because we all had soo much fun.
And we had a really good lunch and I think we all had a really good day!!
Democracy Incursion Recounts
Democracy Incursion - By Aluk
On Friday the 21st of March grade 4VR had an incursion on democracy. At first we all went to the Discovery Room.
Our visitor was named Danny. He taught us about democracy. Democracy means people power which comes from two old Greek words. Danny had slideshows to go through some of Australia's Government levels and the democracy we use - in Australia we use representative democracy. The Federal Government of Australia is the highest level. State governments come next which have Premiers. Lastly we have councils which are local governments.
Next, some of us were selected to have a chance of being our pretend council. Our candidates names were, Healthy, Flowers, Chief, Bricks, Court and Cabbage. All of the candidates read out speeches to the rest of the class. We had time to think about who we would select, and finally we started voting. We had guards ensuring that we were allowed to vote and making sure that we didn't rig the votes. Finally the votes were counted and I was mayor! I was proud of myself and the other candidates. Danny asked if I wanted to let candidate flower be a council member and as a fair mayor of course I said, ‘’Yes!” Five other council members were selected. As mayor I had to wear a black robe, a white ruffle and a gold necklace.
Finally, we had a roleplay on whether dogs should be on a lead or not. Everyone had a say but not everyone could vote. Only us councillors could. All together we agreed that dogs would be allowed off leads only if they’re trained well.
Overall I loved it and learned a lot!
Democracy Incursion - by Joyce
On Friday the 21st Danny came to teach us about Democracy. Democracy is about voting in an election. Voting is about choosing someone to be our Prime minister.
We acted out how to vote. The candidates names were Candidate Chief, Candidate Healthy, Candidate Cabbage, Candidate Flowers, Candidate Court and Candidate Bricks. I was one of the first candidates to speak in the voting but I didn’t get to be the mayor. Aluk was voted to be the mayor and she had to dress up in a robe!
Democracy is from the Greek language people=demos and power=kratos.
We learnt about the three levels of government.
The three leaders of government are mayor, premier and prime minister.
Then we got to act out voting for candidates to become mayor! Candidate Healthy won - Aluk was Candidate Healthy. Aluk became mayor and I was one of the councillors. My name was Councillor Fair. We talked about whether dogs should be on leads at the park. Then only the councillors got to vote on it.
Democracy Incursion - By Aarush
First on Friday morning Danny came for an incursion for democracy and told us all about voting and having a say also all about the council. My class, which is 4VR, we all went to the discovery center (digitech room).
Then we all sat down and he introduced himself. After that we went through the three levels of government which are federal government, state government and local government.
After all that information about democracy six people got chosen to be a candidate for our little democracy voting and pretend council meeting. The candidates were Candidate Bricks, Candidate Flower, Candidate Health, Candidate Chief, Candidate Court and Candidate Cabbage. They all had a speech of their own about why to vote for them off a piece of writing given from Danny. And there were voting officials that operated the voting box and the voting papers. The people that operated the voting papers would ask you three questions. What is your name? Can you vote? Have you voted in this election before? Then they gave us a paper and there were six candidates and all the candidates' jobs. We numbered them one to six by which was our favorite.
Next we put the votes in the votes box and sat down. After everyone delivered their votes in the box we all sat down on the floor and the voting officials counted the votes. Whoever had the most votes would be mayor. At the end Aluk was the mayor.
Then we had a council meeting which I was in. I was the safety councillor. We talked about whether dogs should be allowed off lead in parks. Only the councillors were allowed to vote on it.

Reading
In reading we go into groups and my group is called the Mangoes. We all take it in turns to read to the teacher. Also we have another teacher and her name is Mrs King. We get to talk about words and write sentences. Some other activities we do are answer questions about books, crosswords, cut and match words and Sound Waves spelling games.
