Gospel of the Week
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
While blessing them, he was taken to heaven.
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.
‘And now I am sending down to you what the Father has promised. Stay in the city then, until you are clothed with the power from on high.’ Then he took them out as far as the outskirts of Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. Now as he blessed them, he withdrew from them and was carried up to heaven. They worshipped him and then went back to Jerusalem full of joy; and they were continually in the Temple praising God.
Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
This week the Gospel tells us Jesus' final appearance to his disciples, his ascension into heaven, and their subsequent actions. It highlights the fulfillment of prophecy, the promise of the Holy Spirit, and the mission of the disciples to proclaim the gospel to all nations. "And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, 'Father, into your hands I commit my spirit,' and having said this, he breathed his last," signifies Jesus' unwavering trust and surrender to the Father, even in the face of death. This powerful phrase highlights his faith in God's love and care, both for his own soul and for all believers. It also demonstrates Jesus' voluntary obedience to God's plan and the completion of his earthly mission.
Yesterday, some Year 6 students participated in the Division Cross Country held at Toomuc Reserve. These students are to be congratulated on both their performance and their behaviour as they waited in cold and somewhat rainy weather for their race. Thank you to Louise Breeden, Sharon Blackwood and Lisa McDonald for walking the students up and for supporting them on the day.
Thank you and God Bless,
Meg
