Gospel of the Week
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
Whatever the Father has is mine. The Spirit will receive what I give and tell you about it.
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I still have many things to say to you
but they would be too much for you now.
But when the Spirit of truth comes
he will lead you to the complete truth,
since he will not be speaking as from himself
but will say only what he has learnt;
and he will tell you of the things to come.
He will glorify me,
since all he tells you
will be taken from what is mine.
Everything the Father has is mine;
that is why I said:
All he tells you
will be taken from what is mine.’
Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,
The Gospel this week tells us that Jesus does not abandon the one who followed him. Earthly death does not confine his word to the era of the first century. Jesus, through his Spirit. is still our guide and our way, truth and life. The Spirit unites heaven and earth, God and humanity, within each person and within each community of Jesus Christ.
Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to His disciples when He departed. This is what would make it to their advantage that He departed from them. Jesus meant that the presence and work of the Holy Spirit would actually be better for believers than the physical, bodily presence of Jesus.
He speaks through Scripture, but he may also speak to you through an interrupting thought, an impression, a sense of peace, or another person's words or actions. Each time the Holy Spirit speaks to us, we are reminded of the amazing news that God is near.
On Wednesday we farewelled our Year 4s to the Philip Island CYC camp. There were many excited students and some worried parents but all in all they are having a fantastic time. They spent Wednesday visiting the koala sanctuary and then beginning their activities that include Archery, Giant Swing and the racing cars. You can see some photos below. We look forward to their return tomorrow and we will be publishing stories and more photos of their adventures upon their return.
Next Monday, we farewell our Year 5s to the City CYC camp where they will spend 2 nights and 3 days exploring famous city icons including the MCG, the Aquarium and Skydeck. Camps are such a valuable opportunity for our students to get to know one another better and to challenge themselves, take risks and of course, have fun!
Thank you and God Bless,
Meg
