Gospel of the Week

Luke 10:1-9

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Your peace will rest upon him.

The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest. Start off now, but remember, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals. Salute no one on the road. Whatever house you go into, let your first words be, “Peace to this house!” And if a man of peace lives there, your peace will go and rest on him; if not, it will come back to you. Stay in the same house, taking what food and drink they have to offer, for the labourer deserves his wages; do not move from house to house. Whenever you go into a town where they make you welcome, eat what is set before you. Cure those in it who are sick, and say, “The kingdom of God is very near to you.”

Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,

In the Gospel this week, Jesus commissions seventy-two of His followers for a unique mission. They are sent into towns and villages, preparing people for Jesus' ministry. Those who accept the message will be blessed; those who reject it will be left behind. The disciples return celebrating what they have seen and accomplished.

So how does this Gospel apply to us? Who wants to be left behind? But do we want to accept a message that we do not necessarily believe ourselves? Maybe we want more time to think things over. Maybe we need to be guaranteed of some proof of what is being promised to us.

What Luke conveys in this chapter are three important life-lessons from Jesus for us as believers: first, we must be prepared to share the gospel; second, we can often do this best by offering a helping hand to those around us; and third, as we go, we need to take time to recharge our spiritual batteries.

This is our final newsletter for Term 2 and once again what a huge term we have had. We have had our Year 4 and 5 school camps, Book Fair, Mother’s Day celebration, year 5 and 6 girls footy gala day, popcorn Thursdays, our School Review, year 6 Confirmation Reflection day, Catholic Education Week, Foundation Excursion to Healesville Sanctuary, Cross Country Division, Whole school, level and class masses, Year 2 Science Incursion, Year 3 and 4 Fitness excursions to SFX and Faith Ministry days with year 6 and students from SFX!

Wow what an incredible term and how lucky our students are to have so many wonderful opportunities to extend their learning and enjoy what St Patrick’s has to offer.

A huge THANKS to Terri Fraser for all her hard work in setting up of the Book Fair. Once again this has been a most wonderful success, and this means that our whole school community will benefit from this event. Please see below a report from Terri about the Book Fair.

Once again, I would like to say an ENORMOUS thank you to ALL my staff at St Patrick’s. Day after day they work tirelessly to ensure our students are safe and get the best education. We have battled sickness and many other things happening within our own lives, but they remain dedicated to the roles as educators of children. I wish them a safe and relaxing break.

Thank you again to my amazing parent community. I have been humbled by the support given to myself and my staff particularly during our school review where parents gave us the most glowing reviews around the work and community feel here at St Patrick’s.

School and home working together is key. May God Bless and keep all of you safe from harm and may you get to enjoy quality time with your loved ones this Winter break.

Thank you and God Bless,

Meg
